Mother Right

            1.

I Am Parvati, Mother of Ganesh,

beloved faithful Elephant-headed son,

father of the Buddha,

protector of home and birth,

symbol of domestic blessing

made to amend man-made infanticide:

special child, Mine alone!

                        2.

Shiva, such violent anger, disrespect!

Now My child wears the head of an elephant.

Out of My love for you,

in hope of harmony,

for this Yuga I have set aside

My parthenogenic power.

I will be artist to your dancer, and create

twice-born children

made of dream, My art.

                        3.

You said I could play artist

while you kept order.

The ignorance of the world

has reared up, monster,

toppling dancing Shiva.

My promise ends; My work begins!

You fear I will reassert

My sole power over birth.

First I will reclaim My primal role

as sole bringer of death!

                        4.

Ganesh, with a scarf tied bloody round his neck,

is trying to remind you of something:

Children are born of womben's non-violent blood.

Respect the Authority of the Mother!
